ASA @ 50: Chairman Yahaya Inaugurates Merit Award Committee Ahead of Historic Golden Jubilee Celebration;

As preparations gather momentum for the 50th Anniversary (Golden Jubilee) of Asa Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Amasa Yahaya, has inaugurated the Asa Local Government Merit Award Selection Committee to coordinate the screening and selection of deserving recipients for the maiden edition of the Asa Local Government Merit Award.

The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on 24 August 2026, forming a major highlight of activities marking the Golden Jubilee celebration of the council’s creation.

The inauguration represents a landmark achievement in the history of Asa Local Government, as it is the first formal initiative established to institutionalise the recognition of distinguished sons and daughters whose exceptional contributions have positively impacted the growth, development, and reputation of the local government.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Chairman Yahaya charged members of the committee to carry out their assignment with absolute integrity, fairness, transparency, and objectivity. He stressed that the credibility of the award would depend on the committee’s ability to identify individuals with verifiable records of excellence, selfless service, leadership, and lasting contributions to the advancement of Asa Local Government.

The committee is chaired by Alhaji A. A. Yusuf and includes Alhaji Aduke Kuraga, Alhaji Habeeb Koroke, Comrade Ayuba Jimoh, Hajia Rasheedat Issa, Vice Chairman of Asa Local Government, while Mallam Mutihu Taiye Ajidagba, Council Secretary, will serve as the committee’s Secretary.

Chairman Yahaya described the forthcoming Golden Jubilee as a historic occasion that offers the people of Asa Local Government an opportunity to celebrate five decades of progress, reflect on the council’s rich history and cultural heritage, honour remarkable personalities, and renew their collective commitment to sustainable development.

He also recalled that his administration had earlier laid the legal foundation for the annual celebration by signing the Asa Local Government Merit Award Bill into law on 29 June 2026. The legislation officially established the Merit Award and designated 24 August of every year as Asa Local Government Celebration Day, creating a lasting framework for recognising excellence and preserving the council’s legacy.

According to the Chairman, the initiative reflects his administration’s dedication to promoting excellence, encouraging selfless service, preserving the historical and cultural identity of Asa Local Government, strengthening unity among its people, and inspiring future generations through the celebration of outstanding achievements.

The inauguration of the Merit Award Selection Committee marks another significant step in the preparations for Asa @ 50, reinforcing the administration’s resolve to make the Golden Jubilee celebration a memorable event that honours the past while laying a stronger foundation for the future.
