Wilfred Ndidi Joins Besiktas in €9.5m Deal from Leicester City
Turkish giants Besiktas have officially announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City in a deal worth €9.5 million. The 28-year-old penned a three-year contract with the option of a further year.
Ndidi, who previously played eight seasons with Leicester and helped them win the FA Cup in 2021, expressed his delight at making the move to Istanbul. Speaking to the club’s media team, he said the transfer marked a new and exciting chapter in his career.
“It is really amazing. This is my second time in Turkey; I feel really great. Joining Besiktas is really amazing for me,” he said.
The Nigerian international, known for his defensive prowess and composure in midfield, also spoke about the pride he felt wearing the club’s shirt for the first time.
“It feels very warm and welcoming. Before I put it on, I kissed the badge — which is very important because it shows love,” he added.
Ndidi promised fans 100 percent dedication, aiming to help Besiktas compete for silverware this season.
“I want the fans to enjoy this season. I will give my all to support the team, win more games, and hopefully bring trophies,” he assured.
The midfielder is set to play a pivotal role in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s tactical setup, expected to operate as a deep-lying playmaker in the Norwegian’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.
Ndidi could make his debut as early as next week when Besiktas face Irish side St. Patrick’s Athletic F.C. in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
