FACT-CHECK: No Official INEC Confirmation Yet on Kwara APC Guber, State Assembly Candidates Upload;
By Ayatullah Olododo Abubakar,
Political observer
Reports circulating across various social media platforms, particularly on WhatsApp, claiming that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully uploaded its 2027 Kwara State governorship and it State Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Candidate Nomination Portal (ICNP) remain unverified, as there is no official confirmation from the electoral umpire.
A review of available information indicates that while the APC has concluded its internal processes and commenced the submission of nomination documents in line with INEC’s electoral timetable, the Commission has not publicly confirmed or published any verified list showing that the party’s governorship candidate for Kwara State has been successfully accepted on its nomination portal.
The reports emerged amid heightened political discussions surrounding the APC’s governorship ticket in Kwara State, prompting widespread speculation on social media. However, official confirmation from INEC remains the only authoritative basis for validating any nomination.
According to the Commission’s nomination procedure, political parties are required to upload candidates’ particulars through the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal within the stipulated timeframe. Nevertheless, uploaded documents are subjected to administrative scrutiny, verification, and compliance checks before the Commission releases the official list of validly nominated candidates.
Although the APC has publicly presented nomination documents to its governorship candidate following its primary process, this should not be interpreted as confirmation that the nomination has been officially accepted or published by INEC.
Political observers have therefore urged party members, stakeholders, and the general public to rely only on verified information from official sources and avoid spreading premature or misleading claims capable of creating unnecessary political tension.
Until the Independent National Electoral Commission formally publishes the names of validly nominated candidates or issues an official statement confirming the status of the submission, claims that the APC’s Kwara governorship candidate has been successfully uploaded and confirmed by INEC should be regarded as unverified.
Olododo, advises the public to exercise caution, verify information through credible and official channels, and avoid relying on unconfirmed reports circulating on social media.
