Kwara State House of Assembly Concludes 2025 Budget Defence Sessions:
The Kwara State House of Assembly (KWHA) has successfully concluded its technical session of their legislative functions concerning the ministerial defence of the 2025 budget estimates for the Government of Kwara State.
The budget defence sessions commenced on Monday, 6th January 2025, and concluded on Saturday, 18th January 2025.
Hon. Yunus Bello Oniboki, the honourable member representing Afon Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Water Resources at the 10th KWHA, played a pivotal role in these proceedings.
He, along with other committee members, meticulously reviewed and assessed the budget proposals presented by various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure alignment with the state’s development objectives.
The MDAs that appeared before the House Committees for the 2025 budget defence included:
• Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Women Affairs
• Ministry of Training and Establishment
• Ministry of Works and Transport
• Ministry of Water Resources
• Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development
• Ministry of Energy
• Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources
• Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development
• Ministry of Finance and Appropriation
• House Services
During the sessions, each MDA presented its budget estimates, outlining planned projects and programs for the fiscal year 2025.
The House Committees engaged in thorough discussions, seeking clarifications and providing recommendations to ensure that the proposed expenditures are justified and geared towards the socio-economic development of Kwara State.
Hon. Oniboki emphasized the importance of these budget defence sessions, stating that they are crucial for promoting transparency, accountability, and effective utilization of public funds.
He commended the collaborative efforts of the finance and appropriation committee chaired by Hon Arinola Fatimoh Lawal and all committee members and the representatives of the MDAs for their diligence throughout the process.
The successful conclusion of the budget defence sessions marks a significant step towards further legislative process at the hallow chamber of State House of Assembly for final approval of the 2025 budget, setting the stage for the implementation of policies and projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of the citizens of Kwara State.
