APC Kwara Guber Race Takes New Turn as Top Aspirants Collapse Structures for Yahaya Seriki Ahead of Primary:

The political atmosphere within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State witnessed a major realignment on Wednesday as several frontline governorship aspirants stepped down from the 2027 governorship contest and declared total support for Ambassador AbdulFatai Yahaya Seriki ahead of the party’s gubernatorial primary election scheduled for Thursday.

The latest political development has further strengthened the growing momentum around Yahaya Seriki’s aspiration following the public endorsement earlier given by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, a move that has continued to reshape political calculations across the state.

Among the prominent aspirants who reportedly aligned with Yahaya Seriki after a strategic closed-door meeting in Ilorin were Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Senator Lola Ashiru, Senator Sadiq Umar, Prof. Sulaiman Abubakar, Prof. Wale Suleiman, Hon. Bio Mohammed, Captain Ahmad Mahmoud, Aisha Ahman Patigi, Makama Audu, Dele Belgore, and Dr. Salako Muyideen Oluwatoyin, among others.

The aspirants were said to have unanimously resolved to rally behind Yahaya Seriki in the interest of party unity, continuity, and consolidation of the developmental strides recorded under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki appreciated the aspirants for what he described as an uncommon demonstration of maturity, sacrifice, and commitment to the progress of the APC in Kwara State.

According to him, the collective interest of the party and the future of Kwara State remain bigger than individual ambitions, stressing that unity within the APC is necessary to sustain the achievements already recorded across the state.
He assured party members and stakeholders that his administration, if given the mandate, would continue on the path of people-oriented governance, inclusive leadership, and developmental policies that will further reposition Kwara State for greater progress.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, while speaking on his endorsement of Yahaya Seriki, described him as a young, experienced, broad-minded, and grassroots-oriented politician with the needed capacity to sustain the ongoing transformation in the state.

The Governor noted that his support for Yahaya Seriki followed wide consultations with critical stakeholders and party leaders across the state, emphasizing that the endorsement was not intended to undermine other aspirants but rather to strengthen party cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Similarly, Speaker Yakubu Danladi, while announcing his withdrawal from the race, described Yahaya Seriki as a loyal party man who possesses the experience, political network, and leadership qualities needed to consolidate on the gains of the AbdulRazaq administration.

Observers within the party believe the latest wave of endorsements and withdrawals may significantly shape the outcome of the APC governorship primary as party members prepare for Thursday’s exercise.
