KWARA APC: SERIKI TAKES LEGAL ACTION OVER ALLEGED DEFAMATORY RADIO REMARKS BY YEKETI;
…The governorship aspirant demands retraction, public apology as political dispute draws legal attention
A fresh dispute has emerged within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following reported legal action initiated by Ambassador Abdulfatah Yahaya Seriki against APC chieftain Engr. Musa Ayinla Yeketi over comments allegedly made during a live radio programme.
The development comes amid heightened political activities and internal discussions within the state’s APC as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
According to the account surrounding the dispute, the remarks in question were allegedly made by Yeketi during a radio programme on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in which he reportedly linked Seriki’s withdrawal or exclusion from the governorship race to purported security-related reports.
Seriki, an APC governorship aspirant and prominent figure associated with the state’s political landscape, has rejected the allegation and, through his legal representative, Barrister Abdulwahab Issa, reportedly commenced steps towards seeking legal redress.
SERIKI SEEKS RETRACTION AND APOLOGY
In a reported pre-action notice issued through his lawyer, Seriki challenged the statements attributed to Yeketi, describing them as false and damaging to his reputation.
The legal demand reportedly includes a request for an immediate retraction of the disputed remarks, alongside an unreserved public apology to be made through the same radio platform and published in national newspapers.
The notice also reportedly seeks a written undertaking that further statements of a similar nature would not be made against Seriki.
POSSIBLE COURT ACTION
The legal team is said to have given Yeketi a specified period within which to respond to the demands.
Should the matter remain unresolved, Seriki may proceed with formal court action and seek damages and other reliefs available under the law, according to the reported pre-action notice.
At this stage, the allegations contained in the legal notice remain claims by Seriki and his legal representatives and have not been established by a court.
YEKETI’S RESPONSE AWAITED
As of the time of this report, Engr. Musa Yeketi had not publicly responded to the allegations or the reported demands contained in the pre-action notice.
The absence of a response means that the account of the disputed radio comments remains subject to the respective positions of the parties involved and any subsequent legal proceedings.
Yeketi is a longstanding figure in Kwara politics and has previously been identified publicly as an APC chieftain. Earlier reports also identified him as a former Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in the state.
POLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE
The dispute has attracted attention because it comes at a time when political alignments and internal conversations within Kwara APC are becoming increasingly prominent ahead of 2027.
The party has already faced internal differences surrounding its political direction and governorship contest. In July 2026, for instance, the Kwara APC constituted a five-member reconciliation committee following disagreements within the party over its 2027 governorship arrangements, with Yeketi listed among the committee members.
The latest development therefore adds a legal dimension to the broader political conversations within the party.
For now, attention is focused on whether the demands contained in the reported pre-action notice will be addressed or whether the disagreement will proceed to court.
