NDLEA arrest prophet for drug scandal

NDLEA Arrests Lagos Prophet for Cross-Border Drug Trafficking After Months on the Run

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested the spiritual head of The Turn of Mercy Church, Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, for his alleged involvement in cross-border drug trafficking.

The arrest, which took place on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Okun Ajah, Lekki, Lagos, came after an intensive manhunt spanning several months. NDLEA operatives reportedly arrived early in the day and waited until the end of the church’s evening service before taking the cleric into custody as he exited the premises.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that the operation followed a detailed investigation launched in June 2025. The suspect had twice evaded arrest before fleeing to Ghana to escape prosecution.

Investigations revealed that the case began with the seizure of 200 kilograms of cannabis, locally referred to as “Ghana Loud,” on June 4, 2025, at Okun Ajah Beach. A second interception followed on July 6, when officers recovered 700 kilograms of the same substance from a delivery vehicle linked to the prophet.

Under interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to coordinating the smuggling of the cannabis shipments from Ghana into Nigeria via waterways. He also confirmed that he fled the country after narrowly escaping previous NDLEA operations.

The agency stated that the arrest marks a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle cross-border drug trafficking networks between Ghana and Nigeria.
