Bandits Migrating to Oyo from North West Due to Military Onslaught – Gov Makinde

Oyo Governor Alleges Migration of Bandits Due to Military Onslaught in Northwest

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has raised alarm over the growing migration of bandits from the Northwest to his state, attributing the movement to intensified military operations in the region.

Speaking during the 2025 yearly inter-faith church service for workers in Agodi, Ibadan, the governor revealed that he had received intelligence reports confirming the influx of suspected criminals into Oyo State. According to Makinde, the bandits are fleeing the ongoing military crackdown in the Northwest.

“In a security briefing this morning, I was informed that some bad elements from the Northwest are relocating here due to the military heat in their zones,” Makinde said, adding that the state government is determined to track and deal with the criminals.

The governor further shared a disturbing detail from his personal experience, revealing that during his birthday retreat, some bandits had camped less than two kilometers from his location. “This underscores the seriousness of the situation,” Makinde remarked.

He emphasized the need for cooperation between the government, traditional leaders, and local security agencies to combat the rising threat. “For us in Oyo, bandits will have no foothold. I will not sleep until every inch of this state is safe,” the governor vowed.

Makinde acknowledged that the past year had been challenging for the state, but reassured residents that his administration remains focused on ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
