Kwara APC Faces Fresh Internal Debate as Senators Demand Review of Primary Process:

The three senators representing Kwara State in the National Assembly have expressed reservations over the conduct and outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in the state.
According to the reports, Senators Oyelola Yisa Ashiru (Kwara South), Sadiq Suleiman Umar (Kwara North) and Saliu Mustapha (Kwara Central) jointly appealed to the leadership of the party to re-examine aspects of the primary exercise, saying the process has generated concerns among members and key stakeholders.
The lawmakers were said to have observed that the outcome of the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly primaries has created divisions within the party, urging the APC leadership to take proactive steps to preserve unity ahead of future electoral contests.
One of the major concerns reportedly raised by the senators relates to the screening exercise for the State House of Assembly aspirants, where a significant number of serving legislators reportedly failed to secure clearance.
They argued that such an outcome has raised questions among party faithful regarding fairness, continuity and recognition of legislative experience.
The senators were also reported to have called on the appropriate organs of the APC to reassess the cases of disqualified aspirants across various elective positions, maintaining that experience, competence and proven service should remain important considerations in the party's internal democratic process.
To prevent further disagreements within the party, the lawmakers allegedly proposed the immediate establishment of a high-powered Grievance and Reconciliation Committee that would engage aggrieved members, promote dialogue and strengthen internal cohesion within a specified timeframe.
They equally advocated a comprehensive review of the party's structures across the 193 wards and 16 local government areas of Kwara State, stressing that such an exercise would help reposition the APC, improve grassroots participation and reinforce internal discipline.
Beyond party affairs, the senators reportedly expressed concern over the rising cases of insecurity affecting several rural communities in the state.
They noted that incidents of kidnapping and banditry continue to threaten farming activities, food production and the overall well-being of residents.
They therefore urged both party leaders and relevant government authorities to intensify efforts toward addressing security challenges while reaffirming their commitment to policies that promote economic development, quality education, healthcare delivery, employment opportunities and infrastructural growth.
The lawmakers were further quoted as appealing to members of the APC to place the collective interest of the party above personal ambitions, expressing optimism that the current challenges can be resolved through dialogue, fairness and inclusive leadership.
