The Executive Chairman of Asa Local Government, Alhaji Shehu Amasa Yahaya, has signed the Asa Local Government Merit Award Bill into law, marking a significant step toward promoting excellence, preserving history, and celebrating outstanding contributions to the development of the council.

Under the newly enacted legislation, August 24 of every year has been officially designated as Asa Local Government Celebration Day, in commemoration of the creation of the local government.

The annual celebration will serve as a platform to showcase Asa’s rich cultural heritage, reflect on its developmental journey, and honour distinguished sons and daughters whose remarkable achievements and selfless service have positively impacted the growth and progress of the local government.

Speaking on the significance of the new law, Chairman Shehu Amasa Yahaya described the legislation as a landmark achievement that will institutionalise the recognition of excellence while fostering unity, patriotism, and a stronger sense of belonging among the people of Asa.

He noted that the annual celebration would not only preserve the council’s historical legacy but also inspire future generations to contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of Asa Local Government.

The initiative further underscores the administration’s commitment to rewarding merit, encouraging community service, and strengthening the values that promote peace, unity, and collective progress across the local government.
