BREAKING: Court Voids NDC Registration, Party’s Legal Recognition Suspended;
The legal status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has suffered a major setback after the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja reportedly nullified its earlier judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the party.
According to reports obtained by Clean and Klear Media Affairs, the latest court decision effectively reverses the previous order that paved the way for the NDC’s inclusion among Nigeria’s registered political parties.
The development followed a fresh legal challenge reportedly instituted by other political associations, including the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), which questioned the legitimacy of the registration process.
The challengers reportedly argued that the NDC failed to comply with mandatory registration procedures, alleging that the association did not complete the required application process through INEC’s official portal and also failed to submit essential statutory documents, including its manifesto and other registration requirements.
After reviewing the matter, the court reportedly vacated its earlier ruling, thereby relieving INEC of any legal obligation to register the political association.
With the latest judgment, the NDC is said to have lost its legal recognition as a registered political party and cannot sponsor candidates or participate in elections unless it fulfills all registration requirements or successfully overturns the ruling at the Court of Appeal.
The ruling is expected to reshape the ongoing legal contest surrounding political party registration and could significantly impact the association’s political ambitions ahead of future electoral activities.
