ASA LG @ 50: Yahaya Rewards Founders, Development Champions with ₦1m Cash Prizes;
The Executive Chairman of Asa Local Government, Alhaji Shehu Amasa Yahaya, has honoured two distinguished sons of Asa with cash awards of ₦1 million each and commemorative plaques in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the establishment, growth and development of the Local Government.
The presentation, according to a statement issued by the Media and Publicity Office of the Executive Chairman, Asa Local Government, formed part of activities marking the historic Asa Local Government @ 50 Golden Jubilee Celebration.
The two recipients are Alhaji Memudu Babatunde Ba’ako, a prominent advocate for the creation of Asa Local Government Council, and Chief David Adebayo Akinola, the pioneer Chairman of Asa Local Government Council.
Alhaji Ba’ako was recognised as the recipient of the 2025 Asa Local Government Merit Award, while Chief Akinola received the 2026 Asa Local Government Merit Award.
The awardees were formally honoured during the 50th anniversary celebration held on August 24, 2026, with the presentation of the cash prizes and plaques subsequently taking place at the Asa Local Government Secretariat, Afon, where Chairman Yahaya personally presented the honours.
The recognition, the statement explained, was aimed at celebrating individuals whose dedication, service and contributions have played significant roles in shaping the history and development of Asa Local Government and its various communities.
While presenting the awards, Chairman Yahaya congratulated both recipients and commended them for their sacrifices and remarkable contributions to the establishment and advancement of Asa.
He stressed the importance of recognising individuals who have positively impacted society, noting that honouring such personalities remains an essential component of the Local Government’s golden jubilee activities.
The Chairman further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting excellence, strengthening unity and encouraging service to the people, while urging individuals and stakeholders to continue contributing to the development and progress of Asa.
The presentation therefore provided another opportunity for the people and leadership of Asa Local Government to reflect on five decades of history while celebrating personalities whose efforts have contributed to the Local Government’s journey.
The honours also underscored the significance of preserving Asa’s history and acknowledging the contributions of those who played important roles in its creation, leadership and development.
