KWARA ELITE YOUTH MOVEMENT COMMENDS OLOYIN ABDULLATEEF ADEBAYO (GOC) FOR SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER:
The Kwara Elite Youth Movement KEYM wishes to publicly commend and appreciate Alhaji Oloyin Lateef Adebayo (GOC) for his courageous, timely, and principled intervention on the growing concerns surrounding the political future of Kwara State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
His recent position on the need to safeguard the democratic ideals of the O To Ge revolution reflects the sentiments of many concerned Kwarans who remain committed to protecting the mandate freely given by the people in 2019.
We believe that speaking truth to power is a responsibility that rests on every patriotic citizen, particularly those who have witnessed the political evolution of our dear state.
Alhaji Oloyin Lateef Adebayo has demonstrated uncommon courage by drawing attention to issues that many stakeholders have privately discussed but have hesitated to publicly address. His intervention is not an attack on any individual but a defense of democratic principles and political fairness.
The O To Ge movement was built on the collective determination of Kwarans to end the era of political domination, family control, and the concentration of power in the hands of a select few.
Thousands of youths, elders, women, professionals, community leaders, and party faithful made enormous sacrifices to terminate the reign of the Saraki political dynasty and restore power to the people.
That historic struggle must never be forgotten.
Today, there are legitimate concerns that the political culture which Kwarans overwhelmingly rejected in 2019 may be resurfacing in another form.
The signs of an emerging political succession arrangement have generated widespread apprehension among party members and the general public.
As a movement committed to democratic values, we believe every attempt to create another political dynasty, regardless of the family or individuals involved, must be rejected outright.
We therefore call on elders, political stakeholders, youth organizations, civil society groups, traditional opinion leaders, and all well-meaning Kwarans to emulate the courage displayed by Alhaji Oloyin Lateef Adebayo. Silence in the face of a potential threat to democracy only encourages the erosion of the very principles upon which the current political order was established.
The future of Kwara State must never be determined by endorsement, succession arrangements, or the preferences of a powerful political structure.
Rather, it must be decided through a transparent, competitive, and democratic process that allows all qualified aspirants equal opportunity to present themselves before the people.
Democracy thrives where merit, fairness, and popular choice prevail.
The Kwara Elite Youth Movement firmly believes that the APC stands to lose its greatest moral advantage if it is perceived as replacing one dynasty with another.
The credibility of the O To Ge movement was built on opposition to political hegemony, and that credibility can only be sustained by ensuring that leadership emerges through the collective will of party members and the electorate, not through predetermined arrangements.
As we approach 2027, we reaffirm our commitment to defending the democratic gains achieved through the sacrifices of countless Kwarans.
We stand with every individual and group advocating for openness, inclusiveness, justice, and internal democracy.
Kwara belongs to all Kwarans, and its future must remain in the hands of the people, not in the control of any family, individual, or political dynasty.
Signed:
Kwara Elite Youth Movement
For Democracy, Equity, Justice, and the Preservation of the O To Ge Ideals.
