NSCDC KWARA UNCOVERS GRUESOME MURDER CASE, ARRESTS 21-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT IN ILORIN;

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime with the arrest of a 21-year-old suspect, Soliu Olarewaju Mujeeb, over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a 60-year-old electrical technician, Mr. Olarewaju Olusegun Afolabi, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The development was disclosed by the Kwara State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed, during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters on Sunday, 14th June, 2026.

According to the Commandant, the victim was reported missing after leaving his residence on 7th June, 2026 for what was believed to be an electrical installation inspection assignment. Concern grew among family members when all efforts to establish contact with him proved unsuccessful.

The case was subsequently brought before the NSCDC Tracking Unit on 11th June, 2026, prompting immediate intelligence and investigative operations by the Command.

Investigations revealed that shortly after the victim's disappearance, unknown persons began demanding ransom from his family through the victim's mobile phone.

The family was reportedly instructed to pay the sum of ₦2 million, but later negotiated and transferred ₦120,000 as directed by the caller.

Acting on intelligence gathered through digital tracking and financial transaction analysis, NSCDC operatives successfully traced the suspect and took him into custody.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the crime. Preliminary findings indicated that he was previously known to the victim and had worked closely with him as an assistant in electrical installation services.

The suspect reportedly admitted that unresolved disagreements between him and the deceased resulted in personal resentment, which eventually led to the tragic incident.

According to the confession, the victim was allegedly lured to an uncompleted building within the Kangile/Kunlende axis of Ilorin under the pretext of inspecting a new electrical project.

Investigators disclosed that the suspect subsequently attacked and killed the victim before taking possession of his mobile phone and SIM card, which were later used to contact the victim's family for ransom demands.

In a further development, the suspect reportedly led investigators to the location where the crime was committed. During the operation, a shallow grave believed to contain the remains of the deceased was discovered. The victim's mobile phone and SIM card were also recovered from the suspect.

The Command stated that investigations remain ongoing and that the matter will be transferred to the appropriate security authorities for further action and prosecution in accordance with the law.
Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State, stressing that the Corps will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to combat criminality and ensure public safety.

He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing and combating crime.
The Command assured members of the public that no effort will be spared in ensuring that justice is served and that criminal elements are brought to book.
