WAEC Urges Students to Recheck 2025 Results After Technical Fault

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily suspended access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results due to technical issues discovered during an internal review.

In a press release issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025, WAEC disclosed that the glitch was identified during a routine post-result release procedure. The issue is linked to a new exam integrity measure known as paper serialization, aimed at curbing examination malpractice.

The paper serialization process—used in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics—was developed in collaboration with a national examination body to align with global best practices. However, technical bugs emerged during the result collation phase.

“As a responsive and professional body, we have decided to urgently address and fix the issue to maintain fairness and accuracy in our assessment,” the statement read.

WAEC has, therefore, denied temporary access to the result checker portal while technicians work to resolve the error. Candidates who have already checked their results are advised to re-check after 24 hours for updated and accurate information.

The Council extended sincere apologies to candidates and the public, thanking them for their patience and trust. “WAEC remains committed to upholding excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes,” the release stated.

The notice was signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, on behalf of the Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria.
