Igbaja III honourable councillor

Kwara Ward Councillor Empowers 10 Youths with Barber Skills and Startup Tools

Hon. Kadir Ridwan Olomowewe, Councillor representing Igbaja Ward 3 in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has set a new benchmark for grassroots leadership by organizing a two-day “Skill Up” empowerment programme for young people in his ward.

The initiative focused on training and equipping 10 youths with professional barbering skills and complete startup kits, enabling them to establish their own businesses within the community.

Olomowewe explained that the project was born after assessing the ward’s needs and discovering a lack of barbers in the area. Residents previously had to travel about 20 minutes to Igbaja town for haircuts, a challenge he sought to resolve by empowering local youths.

He noted that the programme also complements the developmental efforts of the governor of kwara state Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasak, Chairman of Ifelodun LGA, Hon. Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, and Hon. AGF Saluadeen, member representing Omupo Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Community members, beneficiaries, and elders praised the councillor for his commitment to improving lives. Elder Opekun, a respected leader in the ward, commended Olomowewe’s track record, highlighting his previous contributions to education, including paying school fees for students on two occasions.

He encouraged beneficiaries to use their new tools effectively, reminding them that small beginnings can lead to big successes.

The event was attended by the APC Ward Chairman, youth leaders, LGA representatives, elders, and other well-wishers, marking another milestone in grassroots empowerment in Kwara State.
