PDP Leadership Crisis: Kwara Chapter Declares Party United, Claims INEC Recognition Ahead of 2027 Polls;

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has maintained that the party’s leadership crisis has been resolved, insisting that the leadership recognized by the Supreme Court has received the necessary authorization from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to participate fully in preparations for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the State Secretary of the party, Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode, the PDP described the recent issuance of INEC nomination forms and access codes for the upload of candidates’ credentials as a significant development that reinforces the legitimacy of the party’s recognized national leadership.

According to the statement, attempts by some individuals to lay claim to the party’s leadership are contrary to existing judicial pronouncements, stressing that the Supreme Court had already settled the matter in favour of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The party further argued that subsequent court decisions were based on the apex court’s ruling, insisting that the recognized leadership remains the only structure empowered to interface officially with INEC on matters relating to the 2027 elections.

Speaking on the situation in Kwara State, the PDP leadership dismissed reports of factional divisions, maintaining that the party remains united under the leadership of the State Working Committee headed by Hon. Adamu Isa Bawa.

The statement added that the official recognition by INEC enabled the party’s governorship candidate, Engr. Suleiman Bolakale Kawu, FNSE, alongside other approved candidates, to participate in the ongoing nomination process through the authorized party structure.

Expressing optimism ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Kwara PDP said it remains focused on presenting what it described as a credible alternative for governance, while expressing confidence in the party’s prospects across the state.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nor other parties involved in the leadership dispute had issued fresh official reactions to the claims contained in the statement.
